HISTORY: FGO Bio | Grand Order Singularities

Sir Bedivere’s history is heavily steeped in Arthurian lore. He is most well known as the first member of the Knights of the Round Table, acting as a steward of sorts for King Arthur and was one of the king’s most trusted advisors. He was not blessed with special abilities or holy weaponry like some of his fellow knights, but was a highly capable warrior who could fight one handed (he had lost his right arm at some point in battle).

With the downfall of Britain due to a number of tragic events (Lancelot’s adultery with the queen revealed and the treachery of Mordred among others), Bedivere participates in the Battle of Camlann and survives long enough to be by a dying King Arthur’s side. As the legend goes, the king orders Bedivere to cast the holy sword, Excalibur into the lake. Unwilling to end his king’s life, Bedivere disobeys twice, until the third time where he casts the sword into the lake and King Arthur’s body is taken to Avalon.

That was what was supposed to happen.

This version of Sir Bedivere that is summoned and participates in the Grand Order, never threw Excalibur into the lake which causes ramifications beyond his control and inadvertantly creates the sixth singularity. He is cursed to wander the world aimlessly with the holy sword that burns away at his soul until he ends up in Avalon where the great mage, Merlin, who helps him in his final task of returning Excalibur and defeating a warped King Arthur, the deified "Lion King" and his former comrades who tread a bloody path to create a so-called utopia to escape the incineration of humanity.

Bedivere happens upon the Master of Chaldea, Ritsuka Fujimaru and their Servant, Mash Kyrielight and along with other Heroic Spirits, they help each other reach each others goals by correcting the Camelot singularity and giving Bedivere the absolution and redemption that he has sought out for a countless number of years after betraying his king.

While he normally has no qualifications to be a Heroic Spirit, Bedivere's deeds and heroics in the Camelot singularity solidify his place as a Servant who joins the cause of Chaldea to restore the human order.

PERSONALITY:

In his past life and in his current incarnation as a Heroic Spirit, Bedivere was and is the living and walking image of a loyal knight. Being the first member of the Round Table, Bedivere has a special connection to King Arthur as steward and a close advisor. Although he never realized that King Arthur (or rather, Arturia) was a woman, he did his best to be aware of her feelings and her line of thinking as the King of Britain, acknowledging her suffering as she tried to be a perfect ruler when others around her started to see her as inhuman.

Unlike his companions who had blessings and superhuman abilities, Bedivere was a normal human who sometimes felt that he could not match up to the other Round Table knights. He wondered why he would be part of Arturia's inner circle. The king makes note of Bedivere's innate compassion that allows him to take notice of things she and the other knights could not. While Arturia was valued for her leadership and her abilities as a warrior, Bedivere admired the king who wished and fought for the prosperity and happiness of the people and not for the glory of Camelot.

His loyalty to the king, ironically, is the cause of a chain reaction of events that leads him on a painful journey to redeem himself.

"... This time for sure. I will kill my king with my own hands."

Bedivere's loyalty to King Arthur is so strong that his actions deviated from the original lore where he prolonged the king's life when he refused to relinquish Excalibur into the lake like she asked. It is this one act of treachery and sin that defines his inner conflict throughout the Camelot singularity. He suffered gravely for his mistake by wandering the earth for over a thousand years, hanging onto the sacred sword which prolonged his life, but burned away his soul until he was a literal husk of himself. He has been through hell and saw the hell that he created in the form of a tyrannical King Arthur, the "Lion King," who has her knights commit atrocities against innocents of the Holy Land for the sake of her vision.

He was resolute in his mission to take down the Lion King to the point where he did not want anyone else involved. Wandering alone for so long had an obvious effect on his mindset, coupled with the fact that he had a personal reason for wanting to face King Arthur alone. Bedivere eventually joined the Master, Ritsuka Fujimaru, and the Demi-Servant, Mash Kyrielight (who he recognized as housing the spirit of his comrade, Galahad), after acknowledging that he was too weak to face his king and the Knights of the Round Table by himself. His interactions with other Ritsuka, Mash, and other Servants who opposed the Lion King, reminded him of the knight he used to be and is; one who fights not for himself, not for a distant dream of utopia, but for the happiness of others and those who cannot fight back, something he had learned from King Arthur long ago.

Although he is deeply ashamed of his actions and the pain it has caused for King Arthur, his friends old and new, and countless lives, Bedivere was able to own up to his mistakes instead of letting it be a burden to be shouldered alone. With the help and sacrifices made by his new comrades, Bedivere had witnesses who saw his confrontation with the Knights of the Round Table, culminating in his final battle with the Lion King. The human, Sir Bedivere, whose soul is nearly extinguished, is able to disappear from the material world, able to finally serve his king until the very end.

Bedivere's story does not end with the defeat of the Lion King, but rather he is rewarded for his efforts by becoming a summonable Servant who can fight alongside his king with his honor restored for a noble cause .

"In some ways… you resemble my King. That is what I feel. If I could be forgiven, I shall… once again, truly devote my sword to you."

As a Servant/Heroic Spirit, Bedivere remains staunchly loyal to Arturia, the one and only king in his heart. He answers the summons of the Chaldea Master to restore humanity because it is a noble cause that his king also fights for. Even so, his loyalty is not so narrow that he does not serve anyone else. Bedivere recognizes the worth of Ritsuka Fujimaru as a Master and as the one who accompanied him on his personal quest in Camelot.

In any other situation, Bedivere at his core is a serious, honest, and kind man. He is a calm individual who is able to treat the others around him with respect and chivalry, befitting of a knight. He offers gentle and tender words of support to others such as Mash Kyrielight who had her own doubts and insecurities as a Servant. It's this sort of personality that gains him the respect from other people who are more accomplished because he demonstrates considerate stability. His composure extends to the battlefield; his skills as a seasoned warrior helps him grasp the extent of danger and conditions that he is faced with and he rarely seems to waver in a fight.

That isn't to say that Bedivere has not shown himself to be vulnerable. He considers himself, "normal" and not at all amazing as a person. He has expressed extreme sorrow in emotionally charged circumstances which he is reluctant to display in front of other people and has admitted to his cowardice and mistakes caused by his intentions to do good. He'll even clash with people whose personalities and actions are more extreme than his, such as Sir Mordred who is brash and selfish in her actions, something he highly disapproves of. Although it's rare, he'll also show some bluster when embarrassed or when he's in a more light hearted situation.

Although his devotion and loyalties have proven to be detriments, Bedivere has not walked away from his experiences learning nothing. He understands his flaws as a person and has learned to look at them with not only shame, but with the determination to acknowledge what he has done wrong and make it right. He is proud to be able to dedicate his sword as a Servant for the future of humanity and will remain devoted to King Arthur and his Master, Ritsuka, to the very end.

CANON POWERS:

This manifestation of Bedivere is a Servant, a high tier familiar and spirit that is normally summoned by magi for Holy Grail Wars to fight against other Servants. Bedivere, like quite a few other Heroic Spirits from Grand Order, is a special case of not being a normal summon.

He falls under the class of "Saber" which reflects his abilities as a knight who fights with a sword with one hand and excelling at close combat. His passive class skills are:

Magic Resistance B: What it says on the tin; Bedivere has protection against magic effects such as charm or various spells.

Riding A: Bedivere has the capability to ride all sorts of vehicles and creatures except for Divine/Phantasmal Beasts.

And his defining weapon on his person is his right arm which serves as his:

Noble Phantasm: Bedivere's Noble Phantasm is his right arm, called the Airgetlám, which is the name of the weapon used by the Celtic war god, Nuada. Its true identity was, however, the unreturned sword, Excalibur. After the events of Camelot, it's power comes from his bond with his Master as it no longer Excalibur itself. When he activates his weaponized arm, it releases a colossal amount of magical energy which he uses to cut his opponents down with a slashing movement.

Aside from his special skills, Bedivere is an excellent general who can use military tactics to plan and discern the battlefield or his opponents and is known for his calm composure in fights.

OTHER:

He was a human who unlike his orignal lore counterpart, who made a very different choice which led to an entirely different outcome concerning his fate. His heroism led to him being registered in the Throne of Heroes, where Heroic Spirits reside; his deeds have made him worthy of being summonable in order to protect humanity.

Bedivere is aware that the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table is well known around the world. He is also aware of his king being a woman after being summoned to Chaldea although that does not affect his view and devotion to her.

GAME INFO;

MAGIC ABILITY:

Heat Generation: Bedivere will be able to generate heat from his Airgetlám (the weapon that acts as his right arm). The highest temperature it can go up to is 400 degrees Farenheit. Any higher and the heat will start to affect his flesh. He can also control the speed of the heat generation, either heating up very slowly and maintaining a consistent temperature, or very quickly with the fastest time being approximately 15 seconds. He will be able to use his right arm as a normal limb as well.

ANY WEAPONS/MAGICAL ITEMS?:
The only weapon on his person and a conduit for his magic ability will be his right arm, the Airgetlam.

Bedivere will only bring his Airgetlám as it is his essentially his right arm, but it will not function as his Noble Phantasm.

ANY PETS?: N/A
